Green Tea and Health Benefits

There are three main types of tea: green tea, oolong tea, and black tea, categorized according to their oxidation levels (called the fermentation process). Green tea is steamed, baked, or pan heated to prevent oxidation and
thus the leaves remain green. Unlike green tea, oolong tea is partially fermented, and black tea is fully fermented.

Because of unfermented leaves and green tea contains the highest concentration of powerful antioxidants called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). Antioxidants are substances that scavenge free radicals. Many scientists believe that  these  oxidized free radicals cause tissue damage at the cellular level, causing damage to our DNA and have often been referred to as one of the causes attributed to aging, cancer, heart disease, and other human ailments harmful to one's health.
Antioxidants such as polyphenols in green tea can neutralize free radicals and may reduce or even help prevent some of the damage they cause.

Benefits of Green Tea.

Cancer Prevention

Clinical studies have proven green tea helps prevent many types of cancers, and there is research to support polyphenols may actually kill cancer cells and arrest their growth.  These anticancer actions have been assumed to be due to the powerful antioxidant effects of green tea's catechins, especially epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). This is a reasonable assumption, given that a number of studies have shown that green tea possesses remarkable antioxidant properties.

Cardiovascular Disease.

Several large studies have suggested that drinking green tea reduces the risk of stroke and coronary artery disease, although results are mixed. Green tea may further lower cholesterol, but it seems to have no effect on blood pressure.

Promote Weight Loss

Green tea contains three major components that promote fat loss: catechins, caffeine and theanine. Drinking green tea boosts the body’s metabolism. The polyphenols also help burn fat.

Green tea boosts your immune system.

Anti-oxidant polyphenols and flavenoids found in green tea, the human immune system is made much stronger. Drinking a lot of green tea everyday can contribute to a healthier immune system and your body can fight off infections more effectively.
